P990i Review

Damage: SGD $750 (Second hand)

Sorry for the delay people.....Lazy bone at work again....been resting my bones since dec 4th after my last paper in school.....finally it has come to the last last paper of my school life....

Ok i shall begin my next gadget review now ......

P990i....The latest offerings from Sony Ericsson for their PDA phone platform also known as the UIQ...it is now in its 3rd incarnation as it is termed UIQ3 by a lot of people....

It is running the OS 9.1 from Sony Ericsson's own UIQ platform...if you are already seeing stars by now , confused by all the jargon fear not this is the only time i would be saying them.....

Relieved already???

Having used the P800i , P910i before this i had high expectation for this phone which is supposed to be the successor to the P910i much hugely popular PDA phone for the SE fanatics...

However as SE packed too much stuff into this baby and so this phone is bloated with features....
Wifi, Radio, Bluetooth A2DP profile, all those wireless stuff on the market this phone has it all....
and to top the icing this phone is 3G enabled meaning it can connect to the UMTS network anywhere as long as it is available( with a valid sim card of course :) )

The basic stuff u can read at the link below:
Mobile Review on P990i

The website gave a very in-depth review on the phone.
I shan't relate on those already being reviewed on the above link
I shall comment on the stuff which i think this phone SHOULD have....but not yet have .....

Why is mobile blogging missing from this phone???

That is the only thing i m missing when i moved from W850i to P990i....a huge disappointment for me at least...with all the connectivity i could easily log onto the Wireless@SG network and blog from there saving me on the GPRS charges....

An extra feature which i found on this phone and nt on the W850i is u can stream radio thru the A2DP profiie ( Hurray!!! I love A2DP!!!!)
To do this first u must have a :
1. A2DP stereo headset like the HBH-DS 970 or some i.Tech R35 S35 etc
2. Adapter to convert the P990i connector to 3.5mm earphone connector

After plugging in the adapter , u can on the radio and it will automatically stream to the stereo bluetooth headset if any is connected...

Ok tats all for the P990i review....hope u guys found this informative....

Here are some picture for ur references.....:D

HBH-DS970 Package

Ok for a start i am reviewing the latest acquisition, the W850i and the HBH-DS970. I must say these two devices really make me think twice about convergent devices. I must say i am a no-no person when it comes to convergent devices, one thing is because i never think that the battery would ever last, for example let say if you use your phone for Mp3 but then half a day pass and your battery runs flat you now have 2 devices which dont work, one is the mp3 player and the other is your phone, how dumb. But this pair of W850i and DS970 totally changed that mindset of mind, after listening to 1.5 hours of MP3 the battery are still going strong , the battery was at around 85% the headset's battery hardly shows signs of weakening. A search on several review website shows that the battery in the HBH-DS970 was as long as 6hrs!!! I was impressed.

Ok for a start i would like to review the W850i. It is one of the phone which makes me quite pleased, first it is a slider phone( the first from Sony Ericsson), secondly it is small and best of all it is a 3G phone!!! The form factor was the major push factor for me choosing this phone. Before this phone i had the Sony Ericsson W900i and also the Toshiba 803T( Yes toshiba do make phones but they are not readily available in singapore thou), both phones are great form factor 803T is a flip phone W900i is a Swivel phone, but the size was a big block. Both were huge phones.
Below are 3 pictures which i had taken of the W850i in 3 different positions and with a ruler for you to gauge the size.

It might seem a little bigger then usual but thats because i am using a crystal casing with it. It is really small without the case. For more informations and detailed specifications , do visit the links below.

One feature which i loved on this phone would be the ability to do a photo blog instantly, i tried that today and the blog account was created instantly and my picture was send to the blog and published all in one single step!! You can see the results on my main blog: My Way

One notable feature improvement would be the charger. For those mobile enthusiast, you would probabaly notice that Sony Ericsson changed the connector of their mobile phones, the charger on the W850i have taken a step further. It was a charger with a pass through for the data cable, what this means would be that you would now be able to sync and charge your phone using the supplied charger and cable. of course this means you need to have the charger connected to the mains and then the data cable connect through the pass through on the connected charger connector. This might look ugly but it does its job and solved the problem when your battery are running flat and still wanna sync with the computer. This charger is new as i did not see this on my w900i phone , the newer w810i and other phones might have this but i am not sure. Oh ya for those people who don't know what i am tokking about, you can view the pictures below it might gives you a better idea.

Next would the review on the HBH-DS970. This is a hang over your neck kind of bluetooth headset, the earphones was surprising good , someone even mentioned it might be a creative EP630 OEM, i do have the EP630 and the earphones do look similar. One thing i loved on my EP630 would that the mid-range bass was clearly heard and the sound was crisp and clear, this was replicated in the earpones of the DS970. Ok hands up those who like the feeling of going wireless... Ok a lot of hands up...this is the main reason why i got the HBH-DS970, it is a great bluetooth headset plus the ability to stream those mp3 from your phone to the headset was tempting. Tempting enough to make me get one of these. This headset comes with a LCD screen which means you can see who is calling you without you having to pull the phone out from your pocket or handbags. This LCD screen also allows you to view the song title, BUT do take note that chinese character is not displayed for MP3 , this is sickening, this headset could do callerid for chinese character why not for song titles!!!! Below is a picture which i took when i called myself , the character 我 was displayed which is the name i stored for my house number. I mean come on we can see the chinese character for caller is and not for songs??? This is ridiculous man, i mean this is not a hardware design problem anymore, the hardware is capable of displaying the chinese character, lazy software engineer??? Maybe.
Another problem with this headset would be that you cannot use any other earphones because the earphones is built in none detachable. Perhaps the next model they can correct this two problem.
Next up would the remaining pictures which i have taken for your viewing pleasure.

In the beginning

Let me first introduce myself...A student studying in Singapore with a passion to keep up with the technology and also to use the technology around us. I like wireless stuff , and thinks that wires are clumbersome. who dont agree with me? Anyway some things are still better off being wired e.g Desktops. This blog will be dedicated to stuff which i hold and held( I do change some stuff faster than you can say gadget-freak-in-the-house ) , mainly the more changed stuff are my mobile phones.

This blog would also be a reference to stuff which i have held and holds. So you can look forward to seeing my personal reviews on certain gadgets.
This blog would also serve to help people make decisions on stuff, which i am holding, whether it will suits them or not. I do look around other review site and sometimes i find that i do have problem finding something i want. For example would be my prior purchase of the Sony Ericsson W900i phone, i was finding out whether the set has this flash themes icons built in, apparently it has but not what i was looking for. But still i went ahead with the purchase and found it out myself.

I must emphasize this that this is not the place to read first hand reviews on upcoming gadgets, what i would be reviewing would be those gadgets that is already on the market and do attract my attention enough to make me get a piece of them. Lastly to emphasize that this is mainly for my reference to keep track of the gadgets i had before but ideas and questions are welcome in case you have any doubts of the gadget i have on hands, would love to try to answer your questions as long as i have the gadgets still on hand. =)

Stay Tuned!!!!! =)
